Dealer says I have to use arctic cat's apv oil with my 2002 zr600. *Any truth to that? *Man, that stuff is expensive. *If not, whats a good one to use..

Tatoo, you do have to use a synthetic, and I would recomend CAT's until someone proves a better one (lot of discussions on aftermkt oils, amsoil, etc.). *The power valves will gum up if you use the regular oil. *Shop around for the oil, saw a dealer last week selling the APV oil for $16.95/gallon...hell of a price.

Spectro Synthetic is the way to go. *My dealer actually uses this instead of the Artic Cat. *Last year all the APV sleds that were taken apart and cleaned had very little carbon build up. *Have been running it for two years with extremely good luck. *Goes for $20 per gallon.

Well I guess I am screwed. I just bought (3) gal. of Arctic Blue at Fleet Farm at $9.99 a gal. I have a "01" ZR800. I will just have to clean them old valves more often and I think I will use the money I saved on a few cold ones !!! http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Do Not Use Arctic Blue With Power Valves. @ 200 Miles Power Valves Stick.

Well I was just wondering how you know that? Anyhow here is what it say's on the container (if you belive everthing you read):
Exceeds API TC or TSC-3 in North America.
Exceeds Japanese "GASO" JASO specifications "FC".
Meets or exceeds performance requirements of International Standards Organization latest ISO "Global" specification "GD" (ISO-EGD) and "GC" (ISO-EGC). Man with all those letters it has to be good !!
Pour Point = -60 F
Can be used in both injector or premix systems.
VES (APV) Ready. Keeps variable exhaust valves clean and deposit free.
I used this oil on my 1991 700 w/c all last year with the oil injection pump turned "way" down with out any problems. I never removed the pipes to check for carbon build up but the eng. ran great. You know that oil mfr. make a lot of the same oils for different co. They just put the oil in different containers. Anyhow I will let this board know of the results at the end of the season. Sometimes the only differance between oils is the price. * *http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I personnally would tend to spend more money on the best oil I can buy. *Even if it is $20 dollars more per gallon, the extra money is worth not having to worry about the oil causing major engine damamge that I could not afford to fix. *Good luck and let us know how it worked!

P.S. - You certainly can't go wrong with AC APV oil. *Spend the extra ging for good oil!

Good Luck Auggie! *Your pipes are not directly in the burning mixture like the exhaust valves. Those exhaust blades have exact tollerances. *A little carbon will stick them quick. *When you sled runs like garbage on the trail you will no why. *With a good oil you should only have to clean them once or twice a year. APV ready probabbly means ready to have something added to make it work. *Just hate to see good sled ruined!

Well, i bought this sled used and it had 1487 miles on it and the #2 cyl APV was stuck open. Owner only used Arctic APV oil. I guess we'll just have to wait and see?? Anyhow thanks to the guys that wished me luck but I am fairly confident that everything will be OK. http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

AC changed the apv oil this year to full synthetic. The old owner most like used the old APV

I know I wont even try to convince AUGGIE to buy Klotz from me. *At 18.00 a gallon that I sell it for, that is double the cost of the FLEET FARM oil he purchased. *And being only about 10 miles away from him in Maple Plain, MN, I could even deliver it. *But, like everyone else, I am sitting on the edge of my seat to hear the year-end test results. *I just hope we have enough snow here for an adequate testing ground...its pretty miserable here this year.... http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Dealers had lots of maintenance problems with the first power valves and Cat oil. *Not sure about the newer oil.

The Arctic Blue synthetic at Fleet Farm is more than 9.99 per gallon. *The regular Arctic Blue oil is 9.99, but you shouldn't be running that with power valves.
The difference between Arctic Blue synthetic and other brands isn't that much.

Anybody ever heard of Redline oil? *This stuff leaves absolutly no carbon build up on your valves. *Its expensive but well worth it(if you have ever had to clean your vaves you Know what I mean)

My buddy brought his 01 ZR 500 in for his 800 mile service this week. *He ran conventional 2-stroke oil and his power valves were as clean as could be. *I would have figured that with dino oil his valves would have been plugged up but good.
