: Guessing Game
performancex 12-27-2002, 08:35 PM The pic isn't the best, but the one on the left is more brownish, the one on the right is more black.

I'm really just trying to learn something here.
permafrost 12-27-2002, 08:41 PM i would guess the one on the right
as it is blacker
NHIcegator 12-27-2002, 08:43 PM :withstupid: Me too,but just looking at plugs with no idea what they came out of and the history behind them makes it kinda hard.
performancex 12-27-2002, 09:34 PM They've got 150-200 miles on them. The left (brown) is from the clutch side. They're from my Yamamutt.
sled-head 12-27-2002, 10:00 PM I say the right also..........although it doesnt look that bad in the picture
Tattoo3235 12-27-2002, 10:18 PM If I had to pick, I would say the right one. Although neither looks real bad.

Enginerd 12-27-2002, 10:34 PM If they were mine, I wouldn't worry about which one fouled and donate both of them to the local landfill. You really need to re-evaluate your jetting. Does it leave a trail of black smoke and snow as you go down the trail? ???
dwhee 12-27-2002, 10:39 PM Wow, I impressed myself I picked the right without looking at your posts. :D I usually just change all plugs when one goes bad, but now that I have a tripple that may have to change. $$you know. :withstupid: Any suggestions about that? :sarcasm:
BearCat2003 12-28-2002, 05:41 AM Does it leave a trail of black smoke and snow as you go down the trail?
It's a two-stroke isn't it?? :p
Just kidding! But I do love my 4-stroke!! :inlove: :inlove:
IndySKS 12-28-2002, 07:43 AM I'm with Enginerd on this one , just toss both of them and start fresh with 2 new plugs and them look for causes or problems from there . For 3 bucks a piece it ain't worth worrying about . Oh and when I said toss them I didn't mean into the lake or bush , that landfill is a great resting place for them . I did pick the right one as well as being fouled .
Formulaman 12-28-2002, 10:34 AM Why would you say it's fouled was the sled miss-firing on one cyl? They are a little black but were they pulled out after a WOT run and shut down right away? Because they will get black if you sit and idle for few mins
;)
performancex 01-02-2003, 04:46 PM Some of you guys are drawing some pretty wild conclusions.
I didn't have any problems, and neither plug is fouled. I've put 90 miles on these plugs since, and they're still OK.
But, what is the difference between brown and black? Heat/cold? Rich/lean? This is really what I want to know.
NHIcegator 01-02-2003, 04:55 PM If it's a fan cooled motor it's not uncommon for the clutch side to burn a little hotter, less cold air flow on that side.
performancex 01-02-2003, 05:15 PM So brown is a hotter burn than black?
machz69 01-02-2003, 05:43 PM well i cant realy tell from the pic but they look ok the black one looks a little rich or even like a little anti-freeze. but both should run.....lol

Yes,that's what it looks like to me ;)
ZR Rider 01-03-2003, 11:35 AM Mach... the plugs are out of a Phazer... no aint-freeze!! lol
My old Phazer did the same thing, unless it was really cold the plugs were different colors!
highlandergerman 01-03-2003, 05:18 PM just can them both, and give er heck, plugs are cheap.
NHIcegator 01-03-2003, 05:27 PM If it's a fan cooled single carb sled you can't do much about it.
If it's dual carbs you may be able to match them with some fine tuning.
Steven Hohman 01-03-2003, 07:23 PM Most phazers are dual-carb models, I've also noticed this with mine, the left (clutch side) is lighter than the right (fan side) plugs.
