: Damage Thus Far.
Frostbit 12-29-2002, 10:26 AM Well, 350 miles on and I slide swiped a rock and made my clutch side lower tie rod look like a pretzel. I had to remove it on trail side and whack it against a telephone pole to get it some what straightened out so I could ride the rest of the day without being to overly canted.
Cost:
Lower Tie rod: $40
What's your damage?
MXZonly 12-29-2002, 10:31 AM I only have 55 miles but that was in snirt and rocks so my percision carbides were junk.
$120 for carbides.
Tattoo3235 12-29-2002, 11:18 AM I wish I had snow to even ride in.
Joe

670HO 12-29-2002, 01:42 PM I broke my windshield=take it off. My recoil takes like 4-5 pulls before it will catch=live with it.
boozer1035 12-29-2002, 03:16 PM No snow here to even ride my F5 Sno Pro. :cussing:
500Indy 12-29-2002, 03:25 PM 2 trips around a the next door neighbors farm field, run over something got caught in track and ripped it at the outer edge.
Total cost:
$525.00 plus the tax man for a Polaris .91 agressor track(which was a steal)

Frostbit 12-29-2002, 06:18 PM Damages to me sled: $40
Damage to 500Indys sled: $690.00
Knowing someone has paid way more than yourself: $Priceless
  :)
silver600 12-29-2002, 07:15 PM Well after 600 miles this year my sled decided to eat the driveshaft. It sheared off right at the bottom sprocket.
Cost: $180 for new driveshaft
$150 for new chain and sprockets
$40 for new bearings and seals
Total: roughly $400 for everything
SD_Sledhead 12-29-2002, 07:42 PM Bought a new belt, $60
rode 10 miles today and found out the belt wasn't shot, its something in my clutch or secondary. Could be costly! :cussing:

Downriver Thunder 12-30-2002, 06:27 AM $0. No snow. :(
catrax 12-30-2002, 09:13 AM About .1 or .2 of a mile on both sleds.
Insurance for the year: $600
Pre-season tune up on $700 (got a cut on labour)
both sleds at dealer
including some parts.
2 trail passes $280
Still waiting on snow. Not sure how many more snow-less winters I can
stand. If it doesn't get better I will really think about getting out of the sport. Just too expensive to have my sleds sitting for 10 1/2 months or more. :(
Jim85IROC 12-30-2002, 09:27 AM Before the season I had warranty work cover a non-functioning smartride and separated seat stitching. Within the first mile on my sled I bent the driveshaft. $309 later the sled seems to be working well, although it still bottoms out way too often. I'll be buying much stiffer springs in the near future.
Mighty RX-1 12-30-2002, 09:40 AM $80.00 for my 10 inch carbides that I wore down to nothing riding on snowcovered dirt roads on Christmas. It also appears that I took about 15-20% off my megabites :cussing:
I had to, you never know when we'll get 8 inches here in mid Michigan again :D
folgers 12-30-2002, 09:45 AM so far 67 for a belt!
sleds not home yet shell be home wed then it might add up?
permafrost 12-30-2002, 10:01 AM Well so far this season on my sled the only damage I have noticed is a semi torn lug :( and that is with about 300 kliks on. As for ladyk's her recoil went on saturday after those ECS plugs fouled  Her rear shock also stopped working but then self repaired. I think it was frozen.
Formulaman 12-30-2002, 10:04 AM So far it's cost me a pail of soap and water to get all the dirt off from bustin' snirt drifts, no trail riding yet
skcowman 12-30-2002, 10:05 AM me ive put on 28 whole miles so no repairs ,but 150 for can and 386 for insurance and no plates yet. but hey, its only money rite? made to go around.
Downriver Thunder 12-30-2002, 10:07 AM Must be nice to be independently wealthy. ha ha :D
phazerhater 12-30-2002, 11:11 AM I've been lucky so far with the 75 miles I've put on, but two of my riding buddies have already had repairs. The first guy had a lean metdown when his EFI chip(old battery style)went bonkers. Did a nice weld job on the pistons! ??? He then bought a 2001 MC 800 and rolled it the first day out. Slightly tweaked the windshield and bent the crap out the the handlebars. Luckily he was ok.
The other guy I ride with sheered a pin in the clutch which wasn't a big deal. Been hearing allot of stories of guys melting their sleds down around here thought lately... ???
Sled Dogg 12-30-2002, 12:03 PM 1st trip north, sheared off trailing arm mount bolt=$61.76
2nd outing, riding around the Ann arbor,MI area fields and roads, lost all carbide on left side, broke off. right side down to nothing. New carbides=I'm afraid to find out!
3rd outing, two turns off trailer was a culvert, over the hood I went, bent steering post=bent it back, twisted ski loop=live with it lol, cases a ditch bank, off I went again=bent steering post again=bent it back,AGAIN!, Bolt from trailing arms first fix decides to back out ten miles from town in narley trails=motorcycle tiedown to limp to town, .75 cent bolt at hardware store in morning, crossing a 6 way stop intersection that was really only a four way stop and making across road before becoming a frogger hood ornament=priceless. Oh, and tons a scratches and other minor bloopers.
Caleb
Frostbit 12-30-2002, 12:24 PM Hey Sled Dogg,
I'm afraid to see how your 4th time out turns out. :p
SD_Sledhead 12-30-2002, 12:31 PM Maybe Sled Dogg should drive around in a tank instead of a snowmobile! It would be much safer to him, maybe not the rest of us though!
Sled Dogg 12-30-2002, 02:07 PM I cracked the flared part of my windshield also sometime during the ride. I think during the first over the hood incident. thank god i was going extremely slow out of the ditch to cross the driveway and that the culvert was plastic. And there was also the 5 foot mud hole I barely stop in time from entering. But then I was on a bad angle to fit between trees to go around it and became wedged between said trees lol. My brother and i were laughing the whole trip. I gained a whole seasons worth of stories from one trip lol.

Mikadoo 12-30-2002, 09:31 PM Hey Sledog, if you are going on the bridge trip I suggest you be last in line, safer for everyone. lol :D
Steven Hohman 12-30-2002, 11:20 PM E-Z Steer kit=$25 shipped ..........I look at it tonight and I find out one side literally fell off.....not going to fix that one...

There are some things money can buy, for everything else, there's the Phazer.
ZIPPARS02mxz800sp 12-31-2002, 12:58 AM 165km ride and did in my precision ski s and carbides. couldnt wait not enough snow. :cussing: :cussing: :D :D :D

Mighty RX-1 12-31-2002, 10:07 AM Dogg, geesh, I've been sledding since I was 10 (40 now) and I have only been thrown off my sled about 3 times. Maybe it's a good thing you didn't buy a new RX-1................

Caleb, you'd better sell that thing, sounds like it's too much machine for ya. lol :D
SNOWFREAK 12-31-2002, 11:30 AM Still waiting for snow!!!!!!!!but while i was rolling my sled around in the garage my toolbox hooked my seat and ripped it  not really the kind of wreck i was looking for, but at least i did not get injured!!
Sled Dogg 12-31-2002, 11:31 AM Yeah mighty, The RX-1 probably can't take this kind of abuse lol. Keep in mind this was all night riding also, running hard, balls to the wall. My sleds weight never really ius a prob except when i have to pull the thing off the trailer or turn it around. I like the way it holds the nose down when nailing the narley moguls. Though high flying antics are a whole new experiance with it's nose weight. I went for a few HIGH flying jumps playing in the fields and off a few face drop offs on the trails we never saw till I was in the air. I was wishing to be on the F7 I was following many times lol.
Caleb
Steven Hohman 12-31-2002, 11:34 AM Caleb- At least you could follow it and keep up!
WoodyCam 12-31-2002, 12:13 PM I got about 200 miles on each of my two Viper ER's and just have had to spend money on fuel, oil and food/drink. The grass is green again though. Let it snow!!!
TT670 12-31-2002, 02:54 PM spent a month redoing the chassis on my 1996 enclosed trailer, used it 3 weeks to find out the chassis was rusting from the inside out and its busted down the middle $5300 for new trailer, havent bought it yet but its looking like im going to need one!! That will take this yrs expenditures on snowmobiling to about $15,000. Thats alot of cash for a 3 month hobby.
DoTheDoo800 12-31-2002, 04:08 PM 1st time out missed clutch set up = 6miles/gallon. Good thing we only did 350 miles the first 2 days.
2nd time out all ice crossing closed. It doesn’t matter how much carbide you have they still don't carve on asphalt. One set carbides $224.25
3rd time out clutch failure but not before turtling her in a 4 foot deep trail puddle. Most of my Christmas vacation removing dirt, tree bark, leaves, moss, ect. Possibly new clutch? $500.25 How do you get swamp stench out of your gear anyway?
Frostbit 12-31-2002, 05:47 PM Son of a $^&*. I need to replace the bearings on my trailer. Not sure yet what thats going to run me.
Let's figure this out:
Sled $8,000
Gas $50.00
Oil $20.00
Part $40.00
Total:$8110
Miles so far: 350
Cost:$23 dollars a mile
OUCH
I bet a trucker would like that...
snowjoe 01-01-2003, 07:11 AM My sons First trip out on my old sled. He slides it off the trail and it rolls into a tree! He wasn't hurt, jumped off the back before going over the embankment. Bent swing arm and lower arm plus misc. parts $330.00
Waiting on the parts to come in hopefully don't find any other problems when I put it back together.
Joe
BLEEDIN GREEN 01-01-2003, 11:11 AM Had to take out the 600 over Xmas--not much snow---half a mile from home I hit a cement culvert (which I knew was there) and took out the upper and lower A-arms, spindle, ski, ski saddle, and slightly twisted the upper shock mount on the bulkhead though it isn't too stressed. All that damage added up to $628.42 US with labor incl. Hit it at around 40 MPH and I stayed on the sled!! Who says Cats can't handle the bumps LMAO!!! Doing the work myself--found the spindle is fine ski isn't bad--picked up the A-arms for a grand total of $154.45 US. Man does it pay to be able to fix stuff yourself!
Bleedin'
maineman77 01-01-2003, 12:49 PM 20" of new snow here in Southern Maine Christmas night. 140 miles so far. No damage just fun. Riding is good to excellent. More snow predicted tonight (Wed) and more on Friday. Yeah!!
NHIcegator 01-01-2003, 02:08 PM Grand total of 40 miles with just a leaky fuel line.
10.00 for filter and all new lines
Loading wife's sled on trailor,re-injured bulging disk in back, could ruin the rest of my winter :(
craftsmen2571 01-01-2003, 03:02 PM Went to tug hill area after christmas & my friend hit a tree with his 800 REV just outside of Redfield on what I think was trail 5. I was in the back of a group of 5 & he was in front of me going around 45-50 blasted a tree, bailed out at last second, he was ok, knee was sore & a little shaken up, but the sled took it hard! He hit the tree almost head on (a little more right side damage) complete rh suspension, ski, pipe, re-coil & a whole lot of hidden damage. When we got home I put it on the fork lift to check out the bottom & the tunnel was twisted pretty bad. If he had insurance it would be a guaranteed total. NO INSURANCE, he is one of thoes people that you already know he is going to wreck before your going out, just not coordinated & want's to race everybody. So if this sounds like you, you might want to slow down
Sled Dogg 01-01-2003, 03:22 PM Sounds like he'd beter call and get insurance lol. Tell hij to wait a wwek to make a claim then I'd say. poor guy.
Caleb
Crash Bandicoot 01-01-2003, 06:37 PM pretty lucky this year 110 miles no damage, zip, nadda
I was lucky enough to get out when there was snow.
I'm in central Ont. Can. and there is zero snow... pretty sad really
XLTriple 01-01-2003, 06:42 PM 350 miles so far :D

madsledhead 01-05-2003, 08:57 PM WOW took me forever to find this post - maybe it should be pinned for the season.
First day out - Full body roll over
New windshield ( to replace the new windshield I just installed)
New Dash gauge console window - 170 bucks
Bent left steering - bent it back
So far it's costly for a few rideres already

classicRiderMike 01-05-2003, 10:59 PM my good buddys 1st ride he saves a dog lost on the tracks near Lake Clear, NY. Carried the dog back to its owner and one minute before letting it go he struck a rail tie and did $500 worth of front end damage.
nigman 01-05-2003, 11:10 PM I just put a brand new Dyno Port pipe and a new track on my MXZ 800 yesterday and I hit a tree tonight. Smashed it up pretty good. Good thing I have full coverage. I have the worst luck with snowmobiles.
