A friend of mine just bought a 96 V-max 600 XTC and the belt squeals like crazy at idle. We haven't had the chance to dig into it yet...I am guessing the sheave distance or off-set is not where its supposed to be. Does anyone else have any clue as to what could be causing this?

take the washers off the three bolts in the back of the secondary clutch. should help it out

my brothers 96 600v-max xt is blowing belts like crazy. 3 of them on saturday 2 yammi and 1 doo belt. they took the clutch of friday nite and cleaned it and added a washer. we took them off on the trail and it is still blowing them. any ideas what it would be.

Check the motor mounts cooley. You may have a misaligned clutch and the mounts might be too loose.

As for the sqealing noise your belt is slipping sounds like you need to pull your secondary in a tad and raise your belt.... not sure how to do that on yamaha though.

Have you tried just changing the belt, maybe wrong one is on it.
