Thats looks like the ticket for the overweight sled market! I can only imagine hitting the big whoops on a sled that with the average rider comes in around 800lb's. :p

The RX-1 isn't over weight so accewpt it. what is an extra 60 or so pounds/ Nothing in my book for what your getting and how it's balanced. The Xpert-X is for all sleds as stock suspensions suck compared to it. I'm so sick of everyone basyhing the RX-1, grow the heck up lil boys. Till you've banged the trails with one shut your mouths and put up. Like the F7 owner ran his mouth to me how my old pos polaris ultra spx was junk. Till we were doing 80-90+ through 3-5ft moguls and he couldn't lose me.

The sled looks good. But BGTRK19472 is right you will push 800 pounds (with an average rider)... The trail sled tips the scales at 550 dry pounds give or take, and the mountain is about 30 pounds heavier... I think that everyone only seeing the weight and not the over all sled...... I myself wouldn't want one, but I'm not saying they aren't a good sled with alot going for them. Yamaha is going in a good direction. They need to put it on a diet. The biggest problem would be getting them unstuck, (I know there are a few of you that don't get stuck, and you know what they say. If you haven't been stuck, you haven't been in good snow). Even at 60 pounds over on the light side of the two mentioned, they would get to be alot to handle over the course of the day.... That is my two cents worth..........

WHO CARES HOW MUCH IT WEIGHS. EVERY SLED IS HEAVY IF THEY ARE STUCK OR YOUR TRYING TO TOSS AROUND TO TURN. I DRIVE A 2003 MXZ600 HO RENEGADE WHICH WEIGHS WHAT 489LBS AND I WEIGH 215, SO THERE IS CLOSE TO 700 LBS BUT IT STILL FLIES DOWN THE TRAIL AT 100MPH AND IM SURE THE RX1 WILL DO MORE SO WEIGHT ISNT A FACTOR. DID YOU EVER LIFT A SLED OFF A TRUCK BY YOURSELF, NO IM SURE YOU DIDNT SO LETS GET OFF THE WEIGHT THING AND START LOOKING AT THE SLED ITSELF..........................

I will agree that the rx-1 would be a great trail sled. But the question I would ask if you think that it is so great why did you go and install a expert rear skid? If the sled is so good it should not need any upgrades! The only reason I would upgrade would be for improvement in performance or a possible weight reduction! Does the expert skid weigh less than the factory skid? I have owned many large sleds one being a 96 vmax4, and that sled wet came in around 600 wet. It was a handfull to ride. :0:

Of course the guy installed the AD Boivin Xpert-X suspension because of it's performance! geesh, thats a no brainer. And it is lighter than stock a tad. But it's installed for all of the different performance gains and no stock suspension compares to an Xpert-X or Highly dialed in M-10.

Great looking ride ya got there.
I do not own nor have I ridden an RX-1, but yes I followed a couple throught the rought stuff last weekend. After doing so and watching the way they rode, there is no doubt in my mine buying the Expert-X was money very well spent.
Good choice over the M-10/stock suspension, I'll bet you'll be very pleased.

She is a thing of beauty. Will you ever have a chance to take it out for a test ride?
As for the other lads Yamaha is a leader in off road and street bike market. They have now brought this technology to the snow. Yamaha will lighten and improve this sled every year. If Ski-Doo released a copy of this machine tomorrow the RX-1 would be 20 pounds lighter a 10 hp stronger before the ink dried on the first comparison report. It will just take a few years or small improvements to get it to where we want it.

I think the RX-1 is a great sled except for #1 the price #2 the crappy pro-action rear susp. Looks like you took care of #2, now if yammi could follow you and drop the price about 12-15%, I'd be standing in line! :D

You guys that keep bringing up the weight issue wake up. Go take one for a ride and see for yourself how it handles. The RX-1 weighs about the same as my machz but rides like it's 100 pounds lighter. Like I said, go take one for a ride. Until you do, drop it

I agree with DotheDoo. For what is in this sled, a 4 cylinder, 4 cycle engine, it is amazing that they even got it as light as they did! Look how far snowmobiles have come over the last few years, the RX has potential.

As far as price goes, what else is there on the market with all of the technology of the RX-1 for its price? I'll tell ya, nothing. Take just the engine; Inline-4, dual overhead cams, 5 valves per cylinder and electric start is standard! Electric start on most sleds is $500.00 alone.

My complaint of the price is that the bike with almost the exact same motor is almost $2000 less prices are getting out of control on sleds in general, look at just about any sled, the 500's use almost the exact same parts as the 800's, so they basically chage you thousands of dollars for a couple pounds of Aluminum.

Please guys, I started the thread to show the setup. I just installed the Expert and thought the 16 inches of axle travel would be cool. I think it looks tight.

Somebody actually called your sled a piece of junk.........what an errogant a$$ hole. Do all snowmobilers have a case of small man syndrome? I dont think there is another sport on the planet that is this competative. I have also noticed more than ever alot of ignorant comments on peoples posts :( .....we should have a rule here that we dont pick on new members to the site so people will have a positive experience here so this site will grow................Hey The RX1 with the Expert suspention looks good........Happy new year

First and foremost, the sled with the suspension upgrade looks awesome!!! I would be curious to hear how it rides.

For the bashers, I finally had the opportunity to see one in person when I went to Colorado for a couple of days a few weeks ago. EVERYTHING about the RX-1 is massive. It sounds good, feels good (on the showroom floor anyway,) and is NOT overly difficult to lift and move. The one I lookied at was on a stand, setting the bumper above my waistline. I was still able to pick it up off of the stand, and I'm NOT a weighlifter by any means. I've heard very little complaints thus far in the season from those who have bought and ridden them. The closest competitor is Ski Doo with an approximately 65 hp DISADVANTAGE!!!

As far as price, Yamaha always seems to be the "Caddilac" of the snowmobile market. The RX-1 looks and feels no different.

Yamaha has a good thing with this sled. If ya don't like it, nobody is forcing you to buy one.

Frankly, the RX-1 is at the top of my list as soon as I am in a position to buy one. I have ZERO brand loyalty.

Dave

That looks awesome.

How hard is it to install?

Did you end up with one on your MXZ? If so lets see some pictures of that.

How do these Expert X suspensions ride compared to SC 10 2s and SC 10 3s?

I wonder how they handle big bumps at high speeds. I know the SC 10s of all varieties that Ive had have been pretty good in these situations but not always so good in the stutters. The SC 10 3 seems to be the best so far overall. I tried putting a SC 10 3 into my 01 MXZ 800 X but couldnt seem to get to work right. The Expert suspension comes with mounting kits that bolt right in? But I guess the cost is probably 3 times what I could get a SC 10 3 for right?

BellevilleMXZ
01-01-2003, 10:46 AM
What problems did you have getting the SC10-III to work? I put one in my 00 700 and it works great!!

RX1 looks wicked with that in it! Wish I could try a sled with one of these in it to see how it rides. Is it tippy with it that high?

MXZonly, I have compared both suspension, My sc10 2 against panteraone's expert x and there is a difference, Like you said the stutter bumbs is where the expert x shines. The expert is a lot smoother and it hooks up better.

Id really like to know how the Expert X does in the big stuff.

Belleville you just bolted the Sc 10 3 directly in?

I got a SC 10 3 X to replace my SC 10 2 X and I first had to wrestle the rear arm ahead a ways to bolt it up then when you would push on or sit on the sled it would only go down about half way and hit what felt like a brick wall. It was like bang that was it, only half of the travel then bang. I had my wifes 02 600 X to compare it to side by side and hers had double the travel. You could feel it go to the bottom of the shock stroke then bottom. I sat the 3 and my old 2 side by side and there was a 3/4" to 1" difference in where the rear arm bolted to the tunnel. I asked on some forums, I cant remember if it was on here or just amsnow but a couple of guys told me I would have to remove and move forward my rear mounts on the tunnel so I said forget that and sold the SC 10 3. I called a few dealers and asked them also: 1 didnt know, 1 didnt think so, and 1 said NO not without modifications.
Now I have a couple of different guys from here telling me it works just fine, I dont get it.

If it does work fine I am MAD because I had the suspension I wanted and sold it.

Belleville;

Id love to see some close ups of your suspension, the upper shock position area and etc.

I wonder if the fact that I had bought a X and yours looks to be a sport SC 10 3 had any thing to do with it?

I just dont know.

If this is possible Id be game to try again. Just bolting it in my sled I gained 2 inches from the bumper to the floor.

Far as I know, all the Hard pieces are the same, arms, rails, links, etc.I'll take some pics tomorrow or the next day if I can remember , It will be in the garage then.Hey if your 600 has a III in it, measure from the back of the front arm tube where it mounts, then measure yours and see if there is a difference.

hey guys ill be the first to tell you
the rx1 is very cool

absolutely smooth power that never stops i had one on the lake yesterday and saw 125 mph and it had plenty left in it (i was just out of room)

it is an absolute blast
it will definately be a great get on it and ride it sled
yeah theyt may be heavy for drag racing but in the trails and on the lake they are great

props to yamaha
and im sure they'll rework anything they can to make it better!

did i mention i own an artic cat (02 zr 800 bone stock)
and its a close race till 85-90 then the rx1 just keeps pullin!!!!!!!!!
and for you guys who think the thundercat will kick its ###
it will until about 100 then the thundercats run out of steam (compared to rx1 )
that four stroke just keeps going PERIOD

Yeah, I was definetly not getting the nice ride tha F7 rider was. I was up and down and left to right. My sled is actually pretty decent when be flogged hard even with the suspension set to soft. Can't wait to try it with all the shocks set stiffer. I don't recomend it for shock longevity but i pound my stuff into the dirt, litterly on this trip lol. I need a sno pro or pro-x 440.
