I finally finished my 98 FIII 700 full engine rebuild today ! :D
I replaced the crank, pistons, and gaskets. I spent lots of time cleaning every part down to the nuts & bolts. I hope I won’t have to open her up again until after 5,000 miles down the trail !
I’ll post some of the pics here. . . if you want to see more e-mail me and I’ll send them to you.
Thanks.

The root cause of all this work was not enough oil to the outer PTO bearing.
I drilled out the oil channel and cut groves toward the opening
to direct as much oil as possible to the bearing.
I’m also planning on using Klotz synthetic oil this year.

A few more pics of the finished engine. My next step is to stud the track with 144 Megabites down the middle with a pattern I came up with that gives me 36 scratch lines. I also need to install an A.D. Boivin suspension upgrade kit and Ultra III flex-skis. I hope we get some snow soon so that I can test the new engine and upgrades ! :D

ZR Sled Head,
No glass beads . . . just a wire brush and elbow grease ! :nervous:
Also, lots of orange hand cleaner . . . cleans oil & grease off parts real nice with no harsh odors.
You used a wire brush? how does that work with out leaving lines? and paint? I have the sama motor in my 99 mach 1 and was out polishing my head today with a dremel but wow what a job! Would love to find an easier way to do the jugs and case? So you just use fast orange hand cleaner? oh and a wire brush?
