i have my insurance through wawanesa. it costs like 60$ a year. (basic plpd no comprehensive or anything) i have had good experiences with them over the years.

no, he means ignition coils which are attached to the cdi, they change the 12 volts and however many amps generated by the motor into the 70000-120000 volts required for a spark to cross the plug...

it appears that it was the idle jets more than anything, replaced them and it runs alright, and should get better when it gets colder out(not really meant to run at 20 degrees above 0:tounge:)

clean the crap out of those carbs, pay special attention to the idle jets and passageways, thats probably your problem

i don't know about the yamahas but with my 78 el tigre (cat) and 197x pantera(also cat) the spark goes at the same time, and the el tigre runs fine, and the pantera has no ignition system problems
