Sounds like you did all the right prep work,,, i would maybe check complete exhaust,, make sure no blockages,, ( like mice),, and make sure no vacuum, or air leakage anywhere in system... good luck..

that is a nice sled,, just look through owners manuel to familerize yourself with how Cat does stuff,, Its normal for cats to engage that high, in the 600's 500's and 440's,, allthough you can change...

Nice find!! looks like an early 70's xr-400 72-73 prolly, suzuki made sleds from 71 thru 75 i believe, and then in about 76 srtuck an epic deal with Cat, that to this day is there main motor...
