Default few questions 98 zr 600

i just purchased a 98 zr600 efi from a friend. when we went to start it there was no spark.we checked all the connections, then saw there was little fuel in it. we fueled it up then put plugs back in.when it was pulled about 4 times it started to fire then my friend wiggled the key it started, bogged a little then ran fine.i rode it about 400 yards to load it ran good. same thing happened when i got it home without wiggling the key.q1,is there a low fuel shutdown?q2 is there an in tank fuel filter?q3,if so could it be clogging from sitting for 2+years?as there is no battery in these can it be robbing spark to try to prime the fuel system? i also would like to know if there is a good place to get a seat repaired or a cover for it.thanks for youre time, jim

Sound like you need a new ignition switch, make sure the killf switch, that it is not damaged. I bought a sled cheap some years back because they could not get any spark, the kill switch was broke off and I took that apart and it must have been broke off after it was pressed down. I poped it back up and Bingo, I had spark. Sold the sled to my brother and he is still riding it. (580 ZR)

bypass the key switch,,, this will verify if it is the problem, but it definetly sounds like it is

on the throttle there is a small button that is pressed when throttle is closed, this button sticks in and throttle is pressed with button stuck the spark is cut off., un hook this conector at the handle bars

hello, been a while. the zr ran good and bad all season (never left me stranded) found 2 of three wires from tps rubbed through on steering post and thought i fixed it.ran good cold then intermittently wouldnt go above 7000 rpm.is there a limp home mode?after pulling the stator i noticed the winding that both wires that were rubbed through go to was partly burned and some wires were burned through.a new one is 600 so i sent it out in the hopes to get just that coil wound.has anyone had this problem? if so can it hurt the pcm?it should just be a reference signal to the tps from the stator and if the tps ohms out correct should be ok? wanted to tackle this earlier but this year was bad money wise.any input is appreciated thanks, jim
