My name is Ryan and I'm working on a Yamaha Tri-Z 250 3-wheeler, and I'm hoping some fellow 2-strokers can help me out.
I'm converting the 12VAC charging system to 12VDC so that I can run some HID lights. The Tri-Z has an overtemp indicator that I would like to keep functioning if possible. My problem with the stock temp switch is that is switches to ground, and that's a problem because it will short out my floating ground in the new lighting system.
What I need is a temp switch with 2 wires or connectors on it that closes around 115°C or 239°F. It looks like my switch has 3/8" tapered pipe threads. I have the tools to make an adapter for it if the threads are close. I'm not having much luck cross referencing stuff at my local dealers and NAPA. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I installed some on a snowmobile. You might run into a few problems. First they take a bunch of power to light upon startup. I doubt the original charging system will light them. I installed a voltage regulator/rectifier from a Polaris and I used that to charge a small velar battery. The velar battery is small and easy to mount. It ran the lights perfectly.
