Hmm.. 2001 was a strange year for the 600. In the RMK, the 600 is a big block, in the XC it's a small block. Both came stock with Mikuni TM-40 flat slide carbs and not the Keihins. The big block is a non-VES Liberty engine, the small block had VES valves. The 2000 big block 600 was still using Keihin carbs, so if the carbs are original to the engine, and it's a big block, it's probably a 2000. Who knows, though

To clean/check reeds, you will have to remove them. Remove the airbox and the carbs. Take a picture of the rubber gaskets so you can mount the fuel line brackets in the same place. There should be about 6 screws on each bracket that have to be removed. That will allow you to remove the reeds and spacer. Check for broken petals and excessive space at the reed tips. There should be very little. If the reeds need to be replaced, I would go with Boyesen reed petals, they are a lot quicker to react and are cheaper than going to a whole new reed package like VForce III or Boyesen.

If it's got the D-slide Keihins, a boost bottle will give some improvement in throttle response, especially in the low RPMs.

Congrats on the new sled, now it's time to wait for snow!
