Hi:

I have a 93 EXt 550. Recently Z adjusted the brake because it was soft. I initially just tightened the cable adjustment on the brake bracket. However after about an hour riding the brake was mushy again. So this time I actually adjusted the bolt right at the caliper. This again tightened everything back up for about an hour of driving but then it was back to being mushy. Si finally I pulled the brake apart and inspected the pads. They look fine about 1/4 inch thick. So I pu ###### back together and readjusted everything nice asnd tight and went out for an hour. You guessed it--back to being almost to the bar before engagement. So my question is can this be the break cable stretching? Seems weird to me but what else could cause this?

Get a newer chain case, newer caliper, newer brake lever/master cylinder assy, and brake line and put hydraulic in it. I have the complete set up if you think about it.

Your cable cannot be streching that fast. On my 92 wildcat we got some early snow that year and I did a lot of ditchbanging and I need to adjust my brake every ride, it was a pain. Try not using the thing too much, I used to jump off the hardpack before needing to slow down instead of using my brake. Cat made an easy adjust kit, rather then needing two wrenches, and by the looks of it you just used your fingers on a knob. Phone a dearler and I am sure they could still get you one. If you can't find any info I could look it up in an old accesories book that I have and find the part #.
