i am looking to buy a zr 500 because everyone says how bullet proof the motors are and how they are just a great all around sled, but while i was looking i found a zr 440 that was just rebuilt by the dealer.

are these sled as bullet proof as the 500s?
i read somewhere that the 440's should be rebuilt every 2000 or so, but know that i think of it maybe it was the 440 sno pro.

just to let you know i do a lot of trail riding, if that will help

thanks alot

My brother had a ZR440 ported w/bored carbs, geared down a little. His 440 actually went better through powder than my ZR500 because it revved really fast and high. His 440 would still do 93mph on the ice. Both sleds are fast and good on the trails.

I have a 98 ZR440 that I bought new. These sleds are a great trail sled , very light and good power. The thing I didn't like is if you like going 60-80 on the trails the engine was working. I ended up blowing up this motor when a "C" clip when out the exhaust port. I replaced the engine with a 2000 700 engine and now it is very light and great power. Now when I want to ride 60-80 the engine is running at least 1200 rpm lower than the 440. Both the 700 and the 440 got in the 10-11 mpg range but the 700 has a lot more torque.
If you had to pick, I think the 500 would be better for the long haul over the 440. IF you can find one with the clicker shocks they are great too when they are adjusted for your riding style. Good Luck

I love my older zr440 it has great midrange and does go though the powder well but mostly is a great trail sled. The only downfall is the 38 carbs they can be very weather sensitive but when it spot-on it really goes. SWRules
