I was just wonderin what the max rpm on my 98 583 should be. Just curious to see how close the tra clutch is on #3. It runs up to just under 8500 and it seems kinda high to me. thanks for your help

Hi 98mxz583,
i think it would be 7800 r.p.m.. If you go above 7800 you could loose some horsepower.
Take care! Z36Qc!

I agree. My friend runs two 583's and has been running at 8000 max for years with no engine problems.

I'd be setting the clutch back to #1. Mine is always set for 7800 to 7900. I believe the adjustment to be 250 rpm per position.

Don't forget that those tachs read 200 rpm high.
Try setting it back on clicker number at a time, and see what happens. I'd guess if you saw 8200, you might notice more power.

That is supposed to be for all. 150 - 200 rpm difference but I wasn't sure high or low. Just something I've heard.

You shouldn't be hitting 8500 with the clicker in the #3 postion if the clutching and gearing are stock. My wife's sled runs right about 8000 in the #3 spot(as have all 583s we've had). Are you using the correct belt? Are the clutches clean and in good shape?

As far as i know its stock i just bought it in october. I havent put a new belt on it yet but the numbers match. The belt also sits a hair below the secondary i am going to get a new belt but i havent been to town yet. Also the clutch kicks in around 5300-550 rpms so i am not sure if thats normal or if he put a clutch kit in it. There is no noise and the clutches engage smooth and the clutches look almost new.

98mxz583: I would check your clutch set-ups on both. It should engage at 43-4400 at shift @ 78-7900 in clicker#3. You are off on both that tells me for some reason recalibration has been done. Dino
