I am using my friends screen name and I have a 1998 Polaris Storm. I want to know if it is possible to swap out the rear xtra-10 suspension for a xtra-12 and have it bolt directly up? I found a used xtra-12 from a 98 xlt limited. The Storm has an aggresive chassis and im not sure what the xlt has but it is not aggresive. I found a complete xtra-12 with shocks and everything, would I be able to swap my Fox shocks out of the 10 into the 12? Now if I could swap the xtra10 for the xtra12 would I have to swap the front also? I also found a complete setup for the xtra12 front from a xlt special and a limited. Thanks for your help

I don't think you'll be able to use your shocks, but the skid should bolt in.
If you decide to do it, do you want to sell the Xtra-10? PM me if you do.

Do a search on this forum...there are a few threads on this topic. Anything can be done - just a matter of how much effort you want to put into it. At worst youll have to relocate the suspension brackets. I have a '96 storm as well and am considering a suspension swap myself. Id be interested in how you make out.

Guys, most people consider the Extra 10 far superior to the Extra 12, and would not consider the swap you are considering, especially for use on a performance sled. The Edge suspension might be a much better, although more expensive, swap if you are serious. I don't know this for a fact, but I think it's safe to assume any suspension you go with will need new mounting holes drilled in tunnel. There are no parts interchageable between Polaris suspensions.
Have an 00 XCR8/M-10 and an 00 SKS/Edge so conversions are not strange to me. It's a lot of work, but in my experience, fun, and worth the trouble in the end.

I agree with michahicks, why would you want to swap an xtra10 for a 12? More travel doesn't always mean it's better. Unless you like that tippy feeling, yes I think they have a little better ride, but you give up way too much in handling.
If you're unhappy with the ride make sure your current skid is in good shape (shocks, springs, greased, nothing bent or worn, etc.) then if its still not good enough consider an edge skid or m10.
If you're going to go through the work, you might as well be happy.
