Ok Guys. I replaced the gears in my Grand Touring 500 which were broken. Thought I cleand the chain case out good. Took it for a test drive on the lake today. Seemed to run good. Forward, reverse, no funny noises ect. Once back at the truck I pulled out the dip stick to check the oil and there was metal peices stuck to it. So back home. Cleaned off the dip stick. Really only a couple of "chunks" Wiped it off and put it back in. This time only fine particles. Cleaned it off, raised the track and ran it forward and reverse. Checked the magnetic dip stick annd no particles. So...Do you think these peices were just hiding in the chain case and the oil washed them down? Could the chain have had fine particles on it and once the oil bathed it they too fell to the bottom. I'm going to drain and refill. I really don't want to have to take it apart again to check.

So what is yur opinion?

I own a 2003 mxz 380f with 200o miles on it and i still find metal particals on my dipstick everytime i haul it out. I think it is quite normal but don't quote me on this someone give a more solid answer with a little more experiece please to back me up. All I can say is don't wory and if you see metal on the magnetic dip stick it means its doing its job. I hope this helps you a bit ravine rat.

Thanks Guys. I feel a little better. I just got home from a blast down the lake. The sled runs great. Checked the dip stick and again there are shavings. They're pretty fine. I'm going to take the chain case off and have a look. Fill it up with clean oil again. Anyone know how tight the bolt that runs down to the roller which has the chain over it should be? Nothing in the manual aout it. Thanks again.

Perfectly normal.

Every sled does this. I haul out enough metel chips that i could melt them down and make a wheel chair for a needy person.

When i do open up the chain case everything looks good.

Dont worry, its not a problem.

Well all the comments make me feel alot better. Thanks. I really haven't had any problems with the sled yet. Done some pretty long trips on it.Barrie to Kirkland lake to Sudbury to Barrie. The most I have done was 465 km in one day. I was living in Hornepayne and my friend and I took off at 0630 am and got home at 0230 am. I'm going to go take the chain case off and have a look. So why doesn't skidoo have a bottom drain plug and a hole in the belly pan to drain? It's a real messy job without a pump. I'll let you know how I make out.
