I have a SkiDoo 583 crank that needs a new rod. My local Ski Doo dealer wont do it and wants to send it out to have it done. They were telling me a couple hundred to have it done. I went to my local motorcycle shop and they said that they can do it. $100 for the labor charge. Is this acceptable amount? The crank needs spilt and a new rod put and and then reassembled. A new rod from Doo is $180 and a new rod from Wiseco is $80. Is there any reason that I should go with the Doo or is the Wiseco fine? Has anyone used a Wiseco rod? Any problems? I am also going to put new crank seals while I have it tore down and a new bearing on the clutch end. It isnt quite as smooth as all the other bearings.
Thanks
Greg
Good point!! I never thought about that!! I guess still for the price, I am farther ahead to buy two new Wisecos than one SkiDoo!!! Anyone else have any input?
Define a couple hundred. To me that means $200.00. Compare that to $100.00 labor plus $180.00 for a Rotax rod or $160.00 for Weisco rods (2 because of balance issues). Sounds like the dealer has the better price, but who's doing the work for them? Are they reputable?
Too be honest doopilot, I dont remember for sure. It was last summer. I will have to check back into. I dont know who they send it out to. I will try and find out who they send it out to and post it back on here at a later time. It will be a while though, I have finals coming up and got projects to finish up. I am glad that you brought this up, when I was quoted the price, I was shocked, and wasnt going to get it done, but have since changed my mind.
