Thumbs up

Hey...I'm new to this forum but not to small engine repair, and I recently purchased what I beleived to be a 440 off of a late 80's sled (the sled whereabouts are unknown, the engine was removed). I'm trying to nail down an exact year/size for it, because none of the suppliers around here are content with engine ID numbers.

Engine VIN: 2627372
Model: Kec-400

attached is a photo of it, just incase it brings back any memories. Thanks a million for any responses, Im hoping to strap this on to a dune buggy

It looks like an early to mid 70's Kawasaki.Probably from an Arctic Cat.Not a 440 but a 400.I had one like it in my old cheetah.

oh geeze, that wasnt what I wanted to hear at all, haha. Well im sure it came off of a Ski-Doo now, I did a bit of checking around, but what bothers me is why it says "made in japan" on the side, I hope some goof didnt strap that 400 on to a skidoo. Is there any remote possability that it could be off of an 80's skidoo or am I barking up the wrong tree here? (the only reason I'm so concerned is that Its extremely difficult to find bearings and seals and any other parts for 70's engines)

Any other guesses at what it is would be appreciated, but if Ive got to be honest with myself, I should be asking "where can I get parts for a mid 70's Kawasaki? lol

Thanks

I would like to see a pic of the recoil side...dead on.
I would like to see a pic of the clutch side...dead on.

....It might be a Kioritz engine from a skiroule....
...Post CCW ownership

The clutch might give it away as a Kawi engine.

........the pics you have posted do not enlarge.

Dynamo^Joe is dead on. It's a CCW (Canadian Curtis Wright) motor as CCW and Kioritz motors had the KEC prefix. I don't think it's a Kioritz as I don't think they made a 400. As for what sled you got me on that one.

CCW also had the name Koritsu (or something like that). The clutch doesn't look familiar to me. Maybe the clutch will help out to find out what the motor came out of.

Well I am not 100% on this but she sure looks like the motor outta my old snow jet can't remember what year it was but it said kawi on it and was blue and white mostly blue not the white one and I say this because of that clutch and single exhaust??? not sure but I really think I recognize it? hope it helps.

It is a CCW/Kioritz, I was looking on a snowmobile engine page and it has this # under the CCW/Kioritz engines. It doesn't say what it came out of or anything, but you can get a rebuilt one for $395
