Thumbs up

I'm changing all the bearings and seals in my 98 GT700 chaincase, only one problem I forgot what direction (the parts were back ordered) the upper bearing goes does the "open" side of the bearing face the seal so that the ball bearings are not visible or the reverse. My buddy has a manual but he's out of town. Thanks to anybody that can help.

Both upper and lower bearings are installed with the seal facing towards you or the chain and gears.
Why I dont really know, I have turned them around so the oil bathe's the bearing and left them the way the factory installs them with 0 problems either way.

Touring700: The seals on the bearings go towards the gears, just backwards to what you think they should be.The reason is to prevent the small metal particals from getting into the bearings. Dino

Dino is correct, the open side faces the shaft seal to keep particles out of the bearings, why they just didnt use sealed bearings is beyond me.
