Anybody know if the stock shocks in a '99 670HO are take-apart? If not, what would be a good take-apart replacement that's not too expensive and still half decent?

I can only assume the 670HO is the same. Thanks for the info. My friend will be pleased that he doesn't have to buy new shocks

Yes, they are take apart. The 96 and 97's were not, however in 98 on the 583 & 670, as well as the 99 670 HO they came as take apart. If you have never had they rebuilt, I would greatly suggest it. They should get rebuilt every 1000 - 1500 miles. They only cost about $25 each to rebuild, but make sure a good shop rebuilds them. Send them to Kurt at Goodwin Performance at 847-872-4001. They guarantee 24 hour turn around.

Yeah, these shocks are sorely overdue for being rebuilt. I would not be surprised if they've never been done and there are 7000+ km on the machine.

I just did the rear shocks myself for my '99 670HO, and took them to a friend (who works for a race team) to get them recharged with nitrogen. The rears were shot, I left them a little too long (5000km). Rode like crap last winter - sat too low, couldn't adjust the headlight high enough, bottomed out a lot. If I picked up the rear and banged it down to clear out the ice/snow, it would immediately spring back up and almost bounce - no dampening.
