Was out today for the first time this year, worked 4 hours last night to put the motor back in and put the front suspension and skis back on...after about a 1/2 hour of powder busting, that was it , connecting rod bearing went and took out the piston too.
Not sure yet of a rebuild or a replace.. sled is getting old 9950 kms. (1995 STX 583)
Checked on a rebuilt crank..=$398.96.
Add piston and gaskets$= maybe more than it is worth!!!!!
Oh well guess I can think about it for a while...Rodmax

Sounds like it's time for a new sled. Part out the stx and take the money you'd put into rebuilding the motor and find a newer sled.

tough luck dude. i'm sure you can find a complete motor for cheaper than parts for the rebuild.

That is a serious bummer. Last year, 3 days before a big trip,I found out that my engine was shot. I'm sure things will work out. Good Luck

Look at Central Snowmobile they usually have pretty good pricing on used and rebuilt engines.
