Question

My oil pump got stuck by a hose under it, so it would not return back to idle. ( I ask this in the polaris section) I ran the oil out and put new plugs in. she is very boggy about 3/4 of the time, the rest she runs with full power. the clutch side piston doesn't have alot of carbon on it, but the other does. I don't think she is running on 1 cyl. because she doesn't backfire. I have to choke it to get it to move. the jetting is about right 280. I is harder to start than most times. It sarted running bad when I was driving, about 3/4 throttle, let off then hit it again and she bogged. It runs better at high speeds. (20-40 mph) power is on and off.

Did I gunk up the carbs or fuel pump? Could it be the clutch? I need to fix it so I can ride!
thanks for any help.

hey just run a compression check cuz you have a weak piston. There is either a gash or a crack in the cylinder and/or piston. I had the same happen to me. It sound like the one with out the carbon is the troubled one. Pistons can burndown on the sides, not just the top.

I found the prob, the needle in 1 carb was not connected because the c clip was gone. Runs better but it is rough when you are keeping a consant rpm. I am wondering if the clip went though the engine.........

The clip could have gone through, but I had that happen to my '93 xlt and after I replaced the clip it ran fine. My suggestion is to run a compression test you might have scored the side of a piston when the clip went through.

it sounds like it did, you may have to tear it down all the way and makes sure it didnt do damage to the crank or case. You may want to check, its better to be safe that sorry.
