What about the 700 MXZ? Are they good machines, fast and reliable? Have a chance to get one for around $4200. 00 Canadian dollars. This one was rebuilt 2000 kilometers ago because off oil pump failure. The total kilometers on the machine is 7100. Any advice?

I've has my 2000 700 MXZ for a year now. Put on 3000kms last year, now has 5500kms. Runs great! I really like this sled, much better in every way than my old 96 583 MXZ. Mine is stock and as far as I know the motor hasn't been apart.
Only thing I noticed about these 700's is that they have really bad cylinder leakdown, somthing to do with Doo's 700cc piston and ring design. Was told you can run them until you have 40% leakdown or more. Cudney has a piston kit that takes care of this problem, I will be getting it when my numbers go above 40%. Mine is at around 25% both cylinders. Funny I guess the old 583 didn't have this problem, the wife's 98 583 with 7000kms only leaks down 3%.

Yup. I'm on my third crank now, and I run LOTS of oil through it (more than 50:1).
Other than that, it's been a great sled. Maintainance costs have been over $1000/yr, but I ride a fair bit.
With 7100 clicks on the machine, you'll probably want to rebuild the shocks (if they haven't been done), check all the suspension bearings, along with clutches, track, etc.
Enjoy!

So is it a good sled? With the possibilities of crank bearing failure happening on this sled, I don't think I am to keen on getting it. But on the other hand, maybe this one got fix up when it was rebuilt.

Except for the bearing problem, it was probably the sled around in 2000. The
bearings went out on mine, got it rebuilt with the update kit, use Amsoil, and not
a problem since. It rides great, and will run with anything short of an F-7 cat.
Clutch it and add a reducer to the exhaust, and enjoy!!

I have had great luck with my 2000 Doo 700(knock on wood). I have 3500 miles on mine. I run a little more oil than normal though! I would rather spend a little on oil than rebuilding my crank.
