Fuel Gage

Okay, so I have been driving my sled a bit (1990 exciter 570), still not idling great, but thats a different problem... Anyhow, for some strange reason the previous owner disconnected the gas gauge, and just left the feed tube open, and then tucked it up out of the hood so it wouldn't spill gas everywhere. But yesterday when i was riding it somehow came out, and went down by the pipes. I didn't notice, went home, parked it, and put the cover on. Today i go out, and the damn thing is sitting in a puddle of gas. Not getting to drive it made me a little unhappy, but that's life, so i decided to find a better place to tuck the tube, but as i was yanking on the tube, i found out that it really wasn't connected that good to wherever it was connected to.

Now my sled it out of gas, and if i put more gas in, it will leak out seeing there is no tube to cover the gas gauge feed hole. And, i can't find the hole the tube came from. Anyone have an idea where on the sled the gas gauge was originally connected to???

Tube for the gas gauges loops through the tank side panel where you can see the level. The bottom part of the hose goes to a fitting on the side of the gas tank right at the bottom and the fitting is tucked into a recessed portion on the tank right at bottom of the side, and if I remember right the top part of the hose goes to a T fitting where part of the T goes to the upper gas tank vent.

Now if you pulled loose the part of the hose that goes to the bottom of the tank. It is not in a spot where you can reach it without taking everything apart. I do believe the fitting is on the side of the tank behind the steel frame work that loops over each side of the tank, and there isn't enough room to get you hand in there.

To get to it you will have to remove or loosen the shroud covering the tank and then loosen the gas tank and slide it back.

I just did this to a Exciter, except I pulled everthing off and disassembled everything on top down to the tunnel and bulkhead, and removed the handlebars the complete shroud covering the tank and side plates. Basically I did this so I could go through everything on the sled, wiring, removed rust, dirt, and cleaned everything, and then replaced all the fuel and oil lines because they had turned yellow, hard and brittle, and you couldn't see the oil and fuel levels in the lines.
