Winter '96 .. our first year in our new house, we had a drift at the end of the driveway that was about 8 feet tall. We cut it with the snowblower, it was like a wall. Had to ride around it to get to the ditch. That was also the year we had a freak blizzard in early May (several feet of snow), was sledding until June. Havn't had a decent winter since.

In the early 70's we lived in North Bay Ontario and dad had to go out thought the upstairs window to shovel the snow from the front door .. The Air base had to use the big runway snowblowers to do the streets .. I would have been in grade 5 and walking to school on the top of the snow banks and the hydro wires were not to far away.......

November 9th of '96 we had lake effect set up over us and we got 5 feet of snow in 4 days. We get plenty of snow but that was the most I've seen from one storm. It was too deep to ride in, and less than two weeks later it was melted.

Back in the 80's, when I still lived in Cape Breton, I rode in the Highlands mostly. There used to be a drift by Timber Lake we called "The Big Drift". We used to tie a ribbon on the branches sticking through it to measure in the summer. If memory serves me correctly it was 26 feet deep one year, there was still six feet of snow there in June. I Imagine it's still the same up there unless they cut all the trees out, I havn't ridden in the Highlands for quite a few years now. :christmas:
