I recently got a used XCR440,, previous owner was friend of friend,,, he raced oval w/ this 440,,, fried this engine, bored it, new crank & bearings,, Pistons rods ETC.. Put on 100 miles & he ran into health problems & sold all the sleds,,, i got this 440.
My buddy said he was curious on what this thing could do,,, so i took it out...
Noticed that it seemed to run great,, except at idle, if it sits for a few you have to give 3 little revs to clear out "the load" & then wham !! It's ready..
My friend has a 99" Artic cat 600, clutch work & a few other mods,,, all assumtions were that i may keep up slightly,,,,, to everyones suprize,, at a 30 mph roll & hittin it on after a nod,,,, we ran side by side to 95,,, he claims his speedo was 105,,, mine said 95.......... Irreguardless of what the speedo said,,, i came to a top end speed & he never blew past.... Acctually we did this a number of times & 50-50, depending on snow terain,, mine would dart 3 feet ahead & then fall back & his would exchange position to where mine was.
We had a 800cc Skidoo in our group,,, he would pull us both forsure,, but within reason,,,, so by seeing the 800's power over ours,, we concluded that the 600 was not having problems,,, and we would just look at mine at the rest areas.
One guy in my group that was new,,, asked if i got a 440 decal set for my sled... He said sometimes people do that just to mess w/ people.... Well it is a 440,, we did pop the hood to settle that.
Can anyone comment on this,, I am not braging up Polaris,, just stating facts.
Is there anything special posibly done to this thing that someone may clue in on from the info. i provided ?
