I am doing some work on a friends 94 G T 583. As I pulled the carbs apart I notice they have different size main jets.270{PTO side}, and 260 {MAG side}. I then looked in the manual and it says this is how it comes from the factory. Why is this? Thanks Cory

Cory, it's because in that motor the PTO side cylinder burns hotter than the mag side, so that's how they compensate for that.

bingo,if you work on any triples you will see it is very common.

Rotary valve motors are always jetted this way.

I have been told the fuel is lower in the port as it goes past where the RV disc passes. The disc cuts off the bottom portion of the port first on the PTO side. The MAG side the disc comes down from the top, so no fuel is lost.

Has anyone heard this explanation before?

I have been told that its usually because the clutch generates significant heat and some of its heat is passed into the pto cylinder causing it to run a bit hotter so its jetted a bit richer to compensate...what ive been told..dunno..its just the way it is..steve

CORY9: revrnd has the correct answer, the fuel molecules are heavier than the air so they stagger the jetting because as the R.V. rotates, it closes the bottom half of the PTO crankcase port first therefore it has to be richer and the MAG port closes @ the top first therefore and can be slightly leaner. The triple piped engines (reed valves) are staggered because of pipe temp and coolant flow. Dino

The Twin pipes compensate

BTW the 94 Grand Touring 580 has the 582 not the 583

The 'doo manual shows that PTO is the rich side.
