OPINIONS? WHAT YEAR WAS THE BEST YEAR FOR THE SRX? I'M LOOKING TO TRADE MY LAST POO, 1999 700 XC/SP FOR A 2000 SRX.

I think 2001 was the best year, as far as speed, but as far as reliabillity, they are all the same except for 2002, which had the exhaust temp. senser i think.

The 2000 was jetted dead on (performance-wise), but due to a few melt-downs, Yamaha jetted the 2001's more conservatively (2 sizes up) to alleviate this problem. The 2002 has DCS (detonation control system), which senses when that melt-down is about to occur, and retards the timing before you do any serious damage. Because of this safety feature, they returned to the '2000' jetting. But, for the most part all 2000-2002's are identical, with the exception of the DCS. I think you'd be happy with any of them.

Its nice to be on vacation in the good ole northwoods of WI! Getting ready to head out for a ride, on my new Yammie, 2000 SRX 700. I just traded my last POO for the SRX. A little info on the SRX, 144 Stud Boys, Bender Bender Cold Air Kit, VForce Reeds, and clutch kit. Have too look into what the kit actually is later.
Officially am rid of all ancient sleds, i.e Polaris.

Family Collection is as follows:
03 ZR900 - me
02 ZR800 CCE - Dad's
04 F7 EXT - me
04 F7 - brother
04 F5 - Fiance's
04 DOO 800 REV - donating to my brother
02 MXZ 800 Adrenaline - "rental"
00 SRX - me

Just went for a good 2 mile ride for lunch with a few friends on my week off at my ultimate winter paradise, the northwoods, st. germain, wi. Update, this 2000 SRX rocks! Down the grade into Tomahawk, to the Shamrock, 110 on the speedo! Only negative, a little heavy in the twisties, but still very manageable with a little more effort to suit my riding style! Cannot throw the missle around like the F7 however, this sled was built for long flat runs, lakes, and nice big wide open bending trails! Definitely not a sled you want to be launching across driveway approaches! Now I see why the Yammie faithful love their triples! The powerband is just phenomenal. would love to throw a set of pipes and a big bore kit on this bad boy!!
