I have a 81 citation that I am restoring , it starts and idles ok and moves at low speed but when there is a strain on the motor , it attempts to cut out , leave it alone and it will go back to a normal idle .... any suggestions

Engagemnet of clutch seems fine but when 1/2 throttle she almost stalls ( track in air )or any strain , to the point where she cuts out but if you keep priming her she will continue to run under some strain. Any suggestions
