I've got a new to me '01 600 MXZ with about 3500 km's, and an 1 1/4" track.
I had it out last weekend on a smooth lake with about an inch of fluff on a nice hard packed trail, and my top speed is about 140 km/h. It's reving about 8100 rpm.
I think it should be faster. Is there anything i should be checking.
I'm not sure how fast 140 Km/hr is but I got an 02 Mxzx 600 with Dpm and I can get about 105 mph on the road and about 95 mph on hard pack. I got a 1 inch track with 144 studs. Also have Goodwin clutch kit. Hope this helps.
I had a 99MXZ and saw 170kph[106mph] on the speedo on a lake with good conditions.Stock with 96 studs .Check where your belt rides in the secondary should be 1/8" above also new belt will help.A lot of variables here, clutching, track tension and alignment, weather and the surface your running. Also check your compression, rings are known to be a bit of a issue on the series 3 motors.
Where I sled: Ottawa Caleton, Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec
You should get ...I would say 155 to 160kmh out of it...Theres's nothing major I believe wrong with your sled...Just needs the driven clutch looked at, and belt tension. It'sa minor tune up by qualified machanic.
Check clutches but also check your rave valves. If they were never serviced for 3500 km you are way over due. I have a 2000 600 mxz with 1.25 track and 150 to 155 km is all I can get but I weigh 250lbs. Excellent sled and a solid motor.
Your sled should definately do 160kph on that type of trail. My 440 will do 90mph (140kph or so) on a nice hardpack trail when wound right out. The gearing is 21-43 with 1.25" track too, so you should have no problem getting that unless your stock greaing has been dropped. Pop open your chaincase to check.
I like working with Electricity............It ALWAYS tells you when you are wrong.
