Hello everyone
Well today I bought a polaris 98 xc600 triple
the steering linkage is bent everywhere and binding
the hood looks like Jack Nicholson went after it
with a golf club and there is a shattered whiskey bottle in the
seat trunk.
That stuff i can sot out...
But the Sled wreaks of gas..
Even if you never touch the Throttle it floods...Bad
fills the crank case the more you pull on it to start?!
the previous owner said When it floods pull the 3 plugs
Lay it on its side turn it over till all the gas comes
Spraying out of the holes and try again it will start then!?!
It does but what is going on.
So many variables....
Does anyone have alink to a polaris service spec page
So I can see where the air screws are supposed to be and stuff like that?
I will be buying the clymers manual from dennis kirk soon too.

I don't know mutch about Polaris but it sound like your carb floats doesn't completely close off the fuel inlet valves. Could be the floats are busted and sink or the small levers that the floats push on to close the valves are bent or the valves themselves don't seat properly.

Could be fuel pump leaking fuel into engine through pulse hose

Well if i was you I would keep the gas shut off untill you fix that.......My buddy Has a 97 mach 1 and one of his Cylinder's flooded he tried to start it ( with out knowing ) and then he bent a connectiong rod...had to put new piston rings well a hole new cylinder...now everytime he shuts it off the first thing he does is shut the gas off. Good luck!

Welcome Tony,
Are you sure it is an XC and not an XCR. The XCR is tripple in 98 and the XC a twin.
Two totally different beasts.
Let me know which you have and I'll post the correct specs for you.
If it is an XCR, change the needle and seats in the Mikuni's. Very easy to do and likely the culprit of the flooding.

im with the fuel pump guys, have come across this 3 times this year, first one was a 98 700 yamaha, fill the motor with fuel, then a 90 ext and the last one a 89 mach1, i replaced the fuel pumps and all was good.

Take the carbs apart and clean them. Probably a sticking float. Especially if the machine has sat for a while.
If the problem still exists replace the needle and seat.
Don't drive it till the problem is fixed.

The reason I suggest the needle and seat is 98 was one of the years Polaris had toubles with them in the Mikuni's. They were brass and after a while they won't seat. My 98 tripple did it when I first got it. It would flood itself out idling and used fuel like crazy. If it sat more than a few minutes it would flood unless I shut the fuel off.
All the Poo's with these brass needle and seat assemblies in the Mikuni's fail. By now most should of been updated with the new ones unless the owner never looked into it or it is real low miles and hasn't worn yet.
I pressure tested mine and it was like they weren't even there.
I got the repalcement viton tiped ones and she's been good as gold since.
To quickly rule out the pump though pull the impulse line and see if it is full of fuel. I too have seen that one.
