ok, I have brand new gas in it, I totally cleaned the carbs and the reeds,,,, when I pull on the cord, I am getting gas into the carbs, I can see that in the fuel line. So I would say I have fuel,,,, right now there is no air box on and no filters on it, so there is NO air restrictions, so I would say I have air,,,,
last is fire,,, when I lay the plugs on the head (in the wire's), and I pull the cord, I see spark on both coils,,,, I put the plugs in and I get nothing,,,

I did the cardinal sin just to test,,,, I shot a little starter fluid into the cylander, and I still get nothing at all,,,,so I assume I am not getting fire. The key was lost by the previous owner, so I am waiting for a new ignition to come in,,, I also think the kill switch is no good since you push it and it goes in but comes out to the same spot,,,doesnt seem to do anything,,,,
The kill switch runs into the ignition, so I simply crossed the wires figuring this would bypass all of this, but it still will not start,,,,

any clues??? please let me know

the killswitch open(run) position on my sled is the two wires NOT connected so maybe give that a try....also there was one of the main things you forgot to check- compression. put a finger over the spark plug hole and pull it over, it should be able to blow your finger off the hole

compression is 135 on one cylander and 130 on the other,,,,,

I definetly have the 2 wires crossed so they ARE connecting,,,,maybe simply unhooking this and it will work,,,

this is a strange set up though,,, you have 3 wires coming into the key switch on one side and 2 coming in on the other side,,, one wire on each side goes out and to the kill switch so when the kill switch is pushed in (to stop it), then the 2 sides of the key have continuity also then.
So by simply unplugging the key switch and the kill switch, neither of these can give signal and it would appear everything should be ok,,,

my only question is, how come it looks like I have spark,,, I wont say its real strong, but I am not positive on how to test it,,,

got her started,,,, believe it or not, she was getting so much air and so little fuel that it wouldnt ignite,,,, I made an air box out of a used amsoil gallon jug and popped it on and she started up!!!!

talk about rigging,,,, now its time to chase down the air box

You know, your experience is kind of ironic. Last week, when my brother and I were up on the trails with our old Cats, an older gentleman pulled up on a really nice newer model sled. After conversing with him for about 15 minutes, it was obvious he had been down the same "road" we're travelling trying to keep old sleds running......

After he peeked under our cowlings, he said "you don't run air horns on these carbs? A friend of mine mentioned that you need the air horns on these old Tillotsons to make 'em run right. And he was right, I had an old such and such that wouldn't run until I put the air horn on..."....blah blah blah I thought to myself.

So.....it seems ironic that what you experienced was what exactly what this guy was saying.......

Any others out there experience having problems running older carburated sleds without the air horn? Reason I ask is that I run my old Cat without it and it seems to rip fairly nice.

she is running 100% now,,,,it had one coils on the sled that was for another model,, and the stator was bad,,,, after a little adjusting, she started on the FIRST pull!!!
