i was just looking through my service manual and noticed that the exhaust valve springs for my 02 edge 500 are the same as the edge 800's. Just wondering if anyone knows why they did this and if anyone has change to a lower rated spring and noticed an improvement. Mine has the highest lbs per inch rating but the 600 and 700 have pretty much half the rating.
any help understanding this would be appreciated

i think you may have confused the colors. your 500 spring should be quite light.

Ya i thought the same thing but in the manual it says for an 02 XCSP 500 the spring is a purple/white which is 9 lbs @1.0 In and 11 lbs @ .630 In. So i thought it was a mistake so i checked the machine and that is what is in there. The same spring as the 800 XCSP.
This is what i dont understand.

I am just trying to get the sled from loading up. I tried jetting and it made a difference but was just thinking a lighter spring might help a little more. I dont think it is running to rich because the plugs are perfect and performace is great everywhere except when you are riding hard and come to a stop and try to gun it again, it smokes like hell and have to feather the throttle to get it going
As you can tell i dont have to much experience with the new liberty's and thought it might help to change to a softer spring but it is just a GUESS.
Thanks for the help tifa

I cleaned them after the first 300 miles and checked every 500 after that. They have always been spotless since i started using amsoil interceptor. It is really starting to bug me but this is my first year working on the liberty and dont know them to good YET. I guess i will figure it out one day.
Any clue at all ???
Thanks
