Drive Belt Replacement

Can anyone help me with changing my drive belt on a 1996 Polaris Indy Classic 500?

I'm a newbie to snowmobiling and purchased a 1996 Polaris Indy with no service manual to refer to. Therefore I'm looking for instructions on the exact oem belt (with model number) and instruction on how to change it. Many thanks

Should come easy - there made to change in the field without tools.

The easiest way is to push the belt deep into the secondary sheeve from the top. To do this, twist and separate the sheeve.

After belt is pushed down into the sheeve, simply grab the belt from under and lift it to the outside of the sheeve.

Then remove it from the primary

OEM replacement belt is 3211042

Or simply ask for a 042 belt.

All you have to do to remove the belt is grab it in the center between the two clutches and pull up and back.It will come right out,you don't need to separate the sheaves.

Thanks. I will try changing the belt this weekend. Hopefully we'll get some great snow. I only hope I don't get bogged down and burn out the new belt.

If I have problems changing the belt, i'll let you know.
