1995 Mach1 Clutching To 108exp

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my TRA clutch on my Mach. I'm going to switch to a 108exp so I can easily switch out setups for flat land riding and mountain riding. I'm going to buy an uncalibrated clutch and I need someone to tell me what I should use for springs, weights, etc. I normally ride around 1,000 ft alt but need a setup to ride in the mountains in Wyoming also. Any suggestions? I'm more interested in low end tourqe rather than top speed since the mach is pretty fast already. I also need suggestions for gearing to use in the mountains. I brought the mach to WY for the first time this winter with everything stock except jetting and it ran fair, but didn't have the low end since I didn't change anything.

I personally think you're better off with the TRA. I had to change the specs a little on my 97 Grand Touring 700 in order to get better performance. Basically, all I changed was the spring. I don't recall what they called for or what I changed to right off the top oF of my head, but I do know that I got the spring rates chart and left engaement RPM STOCK, BUT WENT TO THE NEXT STRONGER SHIFT OUT RATE. I was not having a bog problem, however it was running rich, so dropped the needles one more groove than recommended. It really cleaned it up, plus the slightly stronger spring on shift out brought my RPMs into line. It is supposed to turn 8500, but could only get about 7000 with Ski Doo specs. Now it will jump right up to the needed 8500 RPM. Whatever you do, good luck! It shouldn't take much to get it right.

There is a vast amount of information on the TRA in the High tech forum. And I believe most will tell you the TRA is a better clutch.

I think my 108 is shot because it doesn't disengage. Its stuck in the engaged position. I realize it may just be dirty, I still need to take it apart.

The reason I wanted to go with the 108 is ease of switching parts from mountain riding and then back to the flatlands. I know of a cheap 108 and thats why i was leaning that way.

TRA's are not that difficult to tune for mountain riding once you do get the final set-up. Once you get close all you have to do then is adjust the clickers on the ramps to get the final dial in---can't get any easier than that. For my 97 Grand Touring, I only have to turn down to #1 position for riding here in Minnesota--when I go to Yellowstone area, I only have to turn it up to #5 or #6--depending on conditions. That's it--from flatlands to 10,000 ft. It may not be quite optimal, but very close. (I leave the high altitude set-up in and only click it down to #1 for flat land)
