I'm pretty sure they are those plastic pieces on the outside of the tunnel right above the track, correct? I'm not sure though so I want to see from someone who actually knows.

You are correct it is the long piece of plastic right above the track. It is held on by a screw in the front. You can either take the skid frame out to remove it and inspect skidframe at the same time, or you can pound the sliders out the back through a track window. If you do a search there is much info on that here at SW

so how exactly do they wear out? Is it from suspension movement?

From the friction of the track rubbing against the bottom of the skid. The sliders are a way to allow the track to rub against the skid without allowing either expensive piece to contact and wear against each other.

And don't call them hyfax. Hyfax was a compound used in the making of sliders but is no longer used. This would be like calling all pop coke.

It's the white plastic piece in this picture.
I refer to them as sliders.

they have a sweet tool to remove them.
