Where do I find a step by step guide on how to clean my carbs ?
From removal to reinstallation?
I heard it's a simple process. But I'd rather not attempt it without some sort of
"manual"

I don't want to pay some guy at the shop 100 bucks if it's something I can do
myslelf.

thanks

I learned from a friend. He show me step by step. If you can get someone to show you first you won't need a manual. Good luck!!

If you have not done this job yet let me add my 2 cents.

First of all this is not that big of a deal. If you have the right attitude about it. If you approach this with your machine and shop space set up well it will go good. What I mean is get prepared. Have your bench space cleaned up and lots of space to work. I find the secret is to be organised.

Get the machine jacked up off the ground if you have a lift. Take the air box off and put somewhere out of the way. Unsrew the the carb tops and put them to the side. Be careful not bend the throttle needles. NOTE: these can be removed for cleaning also. Unscrew the the choke pluggers if equipped, or if primer lines are installed remove them, as well as the main fuel lines. Now loosen the carb clamps and wiggle the carbs out of their rubber mounts.

Place rags or something into the intakes to avoid anything getting into the intakes unnoticed.

Take both carbs to the work bench and dismantle them completely. Take pictures if you have a camera after you have removed the float bowls. Emmerse the carb bodies and all their pieces into a carb cleaning solution, I prefer "GUNK" cleaner and let soak. Drain and rinse the parts and pieces and air dry completely. Reassemble as required. Ensure all the pieces go back the way they came off. Because there is a mulitude of different carbs and you didn't tell us what your dealing with I'm being general. You can find a host of help on the "net" that will spell out your application more specifically. Your dealer will also be helpful just give them a call.

A word of caution. Some sleds have different size main jets installed in each carb for a reason. Its VERY important that they are correctly installed on the same side of the engine as they came off. Again talk to your dealer, or at least buy yourself a simple manual that will reference this.

Fire up the old girl and set your idle.

Enjoy that sweet smell of 2 Stroke smoke and noise.

Hope it helps.

Nice post...

I just wanted to ask the importance of syncing the carbs. Has anyone had experience with this? What I`m wondering is, how close can you get them by adjusting the air screws the same as each other or the same as they came out?

Has anyone done this and then sync`d the carbs after...was there a great enough difference to justfy buying a sync tool?

Thx

Thanks....

I did manage to get the off on Sunday afternoon, but noticed some sore of dried "stuff" where the boots goes onto the intake and also where the boot goes on to the carb.
I called my dealer and says that no sealer should be added to the boots when I re install the the carbs

My question is what is this dried"stuff". If I was to guess, it looks like some sort of dried out sealer that was applied a few years back.

Any Ideas?

Nevermind, I found a post that describes how to build your own carb sync out of gas line and wood. This should work for me.

Thx

Sychronizing the carbs is the the best way to get the most out of the engine after cleaninig the carbs but it requires more than just a tool for measuring air flow equally important is setting the cables so the slides pull evenly. I use a drill bit balanced under each slide to see if they both drop the same, some guys just use the fingers, and also check the slides at WOT, engine off of course to see that there is still some upwards movement, that they arent jammed against the top, good luck :bash:
