95 STX 583 with 38s

When I was cleaning carbs and such the other day my bros mention to me something I forgot over the summer,my fuel pump would leak and and not pump at WOT at the end of season

So I took apart my fuel pump

One of the diaprhams in the fuel pump is shot

Sled starts fine 1 pull ,idles great but WOT it is starving ,though I rarely go WOT

I went to the Ski-Doo dealer and they only sell the whole pump and not diaphram kit -$100

I ask for an universal one but he said it is a no go

he said I need the specific pump for a 38mm carbed 583 :dazed:

Now can I use one off a 92-93 Plus X 583(friend has one for cheap) or a 582 with 38s

Can I use one off a FZ/MXZ with 40mms?

thanx in advance SWRules

FB,

Bomby parts book says the pump P/N 403901200 is unserviceable (What BS!!!). Check the Mikuni number stamped on the pump. If it's a DF-52-136, Royal Distributing has a kit P/N 07-187-11 $11.95. If not, you need to find a dual outlet (dual stage) pump that delivers about 70 liters per hour. Royal sells a 65 liter per hour for about $65.00 but I 'm sure you can find one used for cheap. Usually one good backfire will perforate the diaphram or blow a check valve.

Good Luck.

Thanx TD

That is what I said to the parts guy about it not being seviceable

He also said I need 70 fpm

Anyway that one good backfire comment

I think I posted about that backfire this past Jan/2004 now that I think of it,

It split my airbox :dazed:

I guess that is when the diaphram ripped

Yet I still rode the sled after though, like it would bog on full throttle

Thanx for the help

The only # I found on the pump was 44 12 which was on the bottom piece

I have the 95 Bombardier Manual

And under the fuel pump section it shows 3 diferent pumps

1 for the S sries 380/503

1 for the 470/580

1 for the 440/583/670/779

The 1st 2 have the pumps pix in sections

BUT the one for 440/583/670/779 only has the pic of the pump it self but no breakdown of sections :dazed:

Good news on another front(rear idler shaft) is I went to another dealer trying to find a used shaft and he knew what I was looking for and told me Skidoo uses a dif shaft diameter and and I could use a 6205 with diferent interior diameter as I have a shaft from an older Doo but could not get the 3rd idler on with a normal 6205

It sure is nice to have people that help you save $$$ instead of $85(new shaft) it cost me $7 for a bearing that would help me by using an older sled shaft

fwiw, on some of the mikuni pumps the diaphram is stretched or tensioned to spec when installed on the pump body when assembled at the factory. They are considered non- sevicable. I've had them apart and back together and they worked but probably not to mikunis spec? Kind of like stringing a guitar, anyone can put a string on but if its not tightend to the right tension the tone isn't right.
