I am a novice at work on snowmobile clutches, so that is why i am posting in to try to gain some knowledge of how to work on them. I have the problem of my clutches squealing, i was told they are out of alignment. How can i fix this problem myself? or what kind of problems may exist?

first thing to check is how much free play (up and down on the belt) you have.... to tight heats up the belt at idle, 2nd thing to check is side clearance with a new belt (.015~.020) is good! check it with feeler gauge. you need some special tools to do anything else! free paly/ belt deflectin is checked with a strait edge on the top of the belt and push the belt into the center a much as possible, it should be about 7/8~1" off the strait edge in the middle of the 2 clutches.

Squealing belts on a rmk is normal with a oem used belt. Adjust the sheave distance with the dail on the front of the secondary. The belt may be glazed and a new belt will cure it with no adjustment most likely.....
