I'm no GPS expert but I contemplated that unit. Searched some reviews and it isn't a bad unit. Don't let the $300 off fool you though. The unit is being replaced with a newer model later this month. The newer model has SD type cards (similar to a cameras) Not sure of price but I think will be in the $500 range. One thing my research found is that many maps are propietary. Thus if you have a friend with a Garmin and you want to put the maps on your Magellan you may not be able to. I was originally going ut to get one but opted to hold off until I researched the whole thing further. Plus I have access to Garmin maps. I see the complete Magellan CD is $179. The units have some general stuff loaded but you will probably need additional. Like I said I'm no expert so someone with some knowledge feel free to jump in.

Ski-Dog, thanks for the input.
The owners manual on page 80 say the maps upload to the SD card and covers the process to do it. I pulled it from the magellan web site. The added capacity was something I thought would be good for loading maps. I hope it is not a misprint. I have several spare SD cards on hand to use.
I looked into the compatability of maps between units and apparently you can use sw to covert tracks between the major brands. Not sure of the details but something else to look into closer. I did notice most people on here have posted Garmin tracks. Supposedly you can use a standard output also that is cross compatable.
Apparently the unit software itself can be updated also as new releases come out. Another thing to verify.
I wonder if this is the new release of the same unit?
I'm just starting to look. The more I look, the more confusing it gets.
Looking at reviews this unit is very well rated. Real world is the info I'm looking for. Hopefully some members have one and can give some insight.

They were sold out and I got a raincheck. As mentioned above by Ski-Dog they discontinued it so my raincheck could not be filled.
The download manual is incorrect and it does not support a SD card. The unit has no slot and upon questioning they said it was a printing error. The manual was created in conjunction with another line with SD cards (Meridian) and it wasn't corrected with the color unit.
I would of been pissed off if I would of got it only to find out it was end of life and missing the SD card slot.
Back out looking - Lowrance looks to be the best bang for the buck. Not colour but good gray scale and excellent display visibility under sunlight conditions.
