"Back in 97 when they built the XC700, they understood this. Take a risk, put something out just because it's the right sled to build. Not only did they own the ''hotrod'' sled market, but the sales went up across the lineup. Did they have issues? You bet. 220 Cylinders eventualy showed issues eating the ring in the exhaust port. SO WHAT. They sold so many of those sleds the following year (with 824's), they more than made up for any of the 220's that they had to warranty."

Many guys have the 700's with the 220's. They had high ports which some had ring problems. Not all. My neighbor has one with the 220's and he has had no problems with 7000 miles.

I put about 3100 mi on mine before I sold it with zero engine problems, I also occasionally talk to the guy I sold it to, and currently it's just above 5400 mi, still with zero engine problems. Keep in mind you can no longer get the performance ported 220 cylinders from Polaris, but you can have yours re-nickasiled. Dont worry, when a handfull of guys post they had problems with jamming rings, they are only representing a miniscule spec of the total number of '98 XC700's that Polaris sold. The '98 was an excellent sled, both power, and relibility wise. Very rarely do I ever see a domestic twin jam a piston, or blow a crank bearing due to a manufacturing defect. The newer series III Ski-Doo's are the worst for engine failures IMO. Ski-Doo is taking a beating on engine warrenties.
