97 Fromula 583 Rear Shock

my father has a 97 formula 583 with the base hydraulic shocks and no acm. the rear shock i shot and he wanted to replace it with a HPG rebuildable shock, but we are not sure how to get one that is gonna be valved right for his sled. will a 97 mxz shock fit this sled? if it will, will it work with the springs on his sled? if he buys an aftermarket shock the right length how do we kno what the valving will be like? thanks for any tips!

If you can flip the Formula on its side, and measure how long the shock is center to center of the moutnig bolts. I have an MXZ shock and I will do the same. I'll post back later.

\\I thought it was NOT a hydro but rather a non rebuidable gas shock on the F 583

Anyway,the 97 Formula 583 has a falling rate SC-10 same as the Formula 500/SL/S

which is diferent from the rising rate in the MXZ and FZ

So I doubt it is a bolt in

If you had the 97 FZ 583 I would say it is a bolt in but not the Formula 583 unfortunately

yep, it is just the formula 583.... any tips on picking a re buildable gas shock with valving that will go well with this suspension?
