I have a Doo 700 triple that is race ported and I am running the stock 38 Flat slides, My question is it worth going with a set of 44 round slides bored out to 46 or do my flat slides equal the 44's?????? I have been told a flatslide flows alot more than a round slide,, Is this BS or truth???

Thanks for the reply, I usually take advice from someone who is reputable and in the "Race scene". I think his knowledge is not up to par as this is just 1 of many tales he has told :bash: . His theory is the flatslide is closer to the motor than the round slide. It's chrismas so I think a set of 44's would be a good present for me

Tripledoo, if I understand you correctly, you want to know if a 38 roundslide makes the same h.p. or flows identical to a 38 flatslide. Well, the flatslide is definately better and at WOT, it flows more, so yes the flatslide is definately better. The flatslide also has better throttle response. If the roundslides were better or equal to flatslides, they would never be on just about every sled manufacured for the past few years. Why would the manufacturers pay the extra money for them? Because they are better. Alot of tuners like the roundslides because they are easier to tune, but not nessessarly better. I would check with the company or person who ported your cylinders and ask them what is the best size carb to run with your race porting.

The vm 44 will flow more air than the tm38 no doubt. Will your 700 make more power with bigger carbs? that's another story

what sort of racing do u do? and what class do you run(improved? mod?) depending on what class u run you might be able to do with a lil different carb. lectron maybe, or a crankshop(the maching isnt the best on the cranks, but they work good once you have em done right, from my experience anyway) but yah stick with the flats if you can and if you do end up going with the rounds you can set em up so that you can not even really tell the different in throttle response between the two, it just takes more work, and more tinking with everytime you take the sled out

I hear this all the time but the reality is 38mm round flows the same as 38mm flat at WOT and I have flow bench data to support this. Sorry to disappoint but flats only really come into there own at part throttle operation. The signal to the main jet is stronger in a flat slide at part throttle. Hence the quick response. So you can arguably sub a 40mm flat for a 38mm round and get equal performance until WFO. Also TM carbs tune the same way as VM carbs they just don't have as many choices.

The motor can handle bigger carbs, it was done by Benoits. I run the sled on asphault and ice, just radar runs . So I don't have to be concerned about a class. I would like to find a set of used lectrons or Crankshops, I'm just trying to get the facts on the flat vs the round . As I said earlier I was told by a supposedly "Expert" that the 38 flat equalled a 44 round. Thanks for all the good info...Now where are the used Lectrons or Crankshop????

It all depends on the flatslide being used, ski doo goes the cheap route and does not include air jets or air screws and now lately no adjustable needles, in which case I think youre better off with a set of rounds. If I were doing a custom ski doo and had my heart set on flats Id find a set from an arctic cat.
