i am going go through rotary 500 with raves. tunnel porting, case matching, some cyl. clean up. could anybody help me with what size rotary valve, any porting specs. or any other things that would be helpful . thanks for looking
ahh yes rotaries rule :blahblah: . a rule of thumb is to start with a valve with slightly more open time. where you are planing to do case mods and such you may need to go a bit larger than the next size up. my 583 had a 159 degree and i went with a 164 and was most happy with it. tryed a 169 and i thought it lost some pull out of corners so i went back to the 164. get the tool from skidoo to set the timing up,they are cheap and mine cracked the first time, so you might want to get 2. the stock specs may be slightly off due to a larger open time. just set it up as close to stock specs as you can. a factory manual helps with this process big time. personally i have never played with the 500 rv with rave my self, but i have played with 583 and 670 rotaries before. my cousin was working at a skidoo dealer and bought a new 500 with rave. he put it together and proceeded to pound it relentlessly out back of the shop. this was the fastest 500 they set up. the only difference was the brutal breakin that must have seated the rings well. bigger sleds had to be on there toes, because if he got the hole shot it would beat bigger sleds to 660 feet. if any one knows any tricks for better performance when setting up rotary valve timing, i know lots of people with these older sleds that are all ears.hope this helps
