Finally got the sled out for a great family day of riding and while checking the gear lube level found there to be alot of filings.
The gear box was disassembled for new track with original gears and chain going back in.
Didn't recheck chain tension but will do that before next ride
Should I be concerned that I did not reassemble properly?

james,
there is always a little catch of filings on the dipstick. with time though it gets to be less. did you put the chain back on the same direction?

I have found that w/ the last 3 sleds I've had you can clean the chaincase, change the oil & you'll find very fine filings on the magnet. I've never had a chain failure & there never appears to be any wear on the sprockets.

Yeah there is always crap on the magnet. Mt chain has 13,000 miles on it, and it still gets stuff on the magnet. Keep the fluid changed and you'll be fine.

Any bites on that sled of yours yet

Same direction??
No Paul, there is a 50/50 chance that it was reversed. Are they bi-directional?

yeah they are. but what he is refering to is using the same chain. it will run, but wear more. it's like a driveshaft u-joint of a car. due to wear, if you are reusing it you need to amrk it so it gets put on in the same orientation. all it will do is cause more wear.

I aviation, we always say, if the filings or "chips" arent big enough to read the part number off of them, dont worry about it. Completely normal. As for putting the chain on the same way, any parts put together that have to move against each other, will eventually "custom wear" to fit each other. If you put parts back together differently than they got used to, they are going to have to wear to fit each other again, causing a little more wear on the part. In the situation of a chaincase though, I dont think you have anything to worry about.
