Have a '94 Phazer II LE. Runs fine at first, but after 20 mins or so the clutch starts to stick, and won't back shift properly, staying in gear even when the sled is stopped. If it is ridden long enough, the sled won't start with the track on the ground, and you have to have someone lift up the back end, start it, then run with the sled before you jump on so it doesn't stall. It is like trying to start a car in 5th gear. If you wait long enough though, the clutch will cool down and un-stick, letting you start it normally.
Pulled the primary, cleaned it thoroughly, put a new spring and belt on, but still have the same problem. Next step is to replace the plastic sliders that the sheave slides on.
Any ideas to help with this goose chase?
Thanks

Ya, I think I can help with ur goose chase, I have the exact same clutch as u do and mine was being dumb kinda like that too, but not nearly as bad, it just wasnt operating properly when engaging, and disengaging. What I did was clean it all up really good like u already did, then sprayed some light lube on the centre shaft of the primary where at rest is normally covered by the apparatus that moves in and out. Ever since then it works fine and smooth. Iv heard that ur not sopsed to lube ur clutch, but since when I manually moved it in and out it was so rough, and cud be corrected with lube, i did it. Its prolly alright where I lubed it, just dont lube it on the shives or helix or any of the internals of the clutch. Dont know for sure if this will fix it but its worth a try. Hope this helps u out!.

Yeah, I have lubed it as well. It helps a little bit, but still results in the same problem.
Thanks for the help though.

Well after u put those new plastic sliders on, it might make a difference, because as plastic and metal heat up, more drag is produced between them, and maybe the ones u have are to worn to work properly anymore. It might be ur spring too, when it warms up, it doesnt resist compressing as much, and that cud be why it only works well when its cold. I have to ask what kind of belt ur using, because theres one type that (Ultimax 3)has the wrong number my manufacturer and it doesnt fit ur sled properly You said that its like its stuck in gear and thats exactly what happens, your sled cud be idling and it will still move on u. Im putting up a post on this tomorrow, including the belts effected and the numbers of the belts that are wrong and the number of the belts that are right for the phazer. I dont have all the info tonight but by tomorrow I will.
