I've been on a couple of truck forums & they mention the term troll. I don't think it has anything to do with hairy little men under bridges.

TROLL: *term used to discribe a person who reads forums and newsgroups without adding to the content. *not always used as a derogatory reference.

Alscool, your explanation didn't really fit one of the situations where it was used. I checked dictionary.com & found this:

troll

An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other (electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect, but not overtly controversial (compare flame bait), or the act of sending such a message. Trolling aims to elicit an emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their minds.

That definition hit the nail on the head.

Trolls only post to start trouble and don't add any value
