We sure did come across some very gruesome scenes this past weekend in the Haliburton area. First one was a head on collision that took place late Friday night on Guilford Lake (next door to Redstone for those who know the area). The two Polaris looked like they were one, i have never scene snowmobile wreckage like that. We thought for sure someone must have been killed in the accident. However after speaking with a volunteer fire fighter who was one of the first on the scene the previous night we were glad to hear that no one was killed. The drivers did however suffer various broken bones. We were told that alcohol was not a factor and that the thick fog that was present last Friday night may have effected someones vision. After we left the scene we were back on route to a friends place on Kawagama Lake. As we approached a small land crossing near Minden Bay on Kawagama we came across more carnage from the previous night. This second accident scene really bothered me. The rider must have come off the ice in the fog from the previous night and caught a tree with his right ski. When we passed the scene the ski doo he was riding had already been removed. However the right ski and most of the suspension was still raped around the tree. The disturbing thing was seeing the riders cracked helmet and boot left at the scene. Sunday I had to make a stop at Kenesis Marina. Was told by them there that unfortunately the rider (a 41yr old man)was killed in the accident. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

People were definitely out trying to get miles on this weekend. Yesterday was coming up a hill, narrow trail, all the way to the right, come around a corner, some guy on a cat, going to fast, on the left side of the trail. He was able to slow jerk it right into the snowbank and stop. He couldn't seem to understand that anyone else might be on the trails.
Then coming up to a road, where you have to make a left around a large snowbank and then road ride for a bit, I stopped before the snow bank and stop sign, stood up to look for my companion behind, when I saw the top of a helmet on the other side of the bank, guy came piling around the corner sliding through the turn. Luckily I was back far enough where he didn't hit me. He seemed totally suprised that a sled was sitting there......Driving defensively seems to be a 'Lost Art'.

I have not seen this in the paper yet, but is is all over local club message boards.
They lost one in the Cadillac area this past weekend also. A 38 year old gentleman from Ohio and three of his buddies riding and DRINKING HEAVILLY. He hit a tree at a very high rate of speed.
Once this buddies found out that they would probably be breathalyzed, they split on him, leaving him with a few locals to call 911.
He died after reaching the hospital.
There were several reports of all four of them pulling beers from the trunk of their sleds around the Boon bonfire and drinking pretty heavilly at the Buck horn Inn.
It is stuff like this that just make me sick. My deepest condolances go to his wife and kids (he was overheard talking about his family at the bonfire).
I hope his cowardly friends never sleep again. Abandoning a fallen friend is an instant "go straight to H#LL" card in my opinion.

Seems to be alot of sad stories this year, here's hoping we've heard the last of them for the season. Condolences of course go out, and wishes for a safe end to the season.

Its hard to believe that these guys were so afraid of getting a ticket that they left their buddy to die. Wouldn't one think that you could take the ticket to try to help your buddy live. But instead they have to live with the fact that they left their friend for dead. But to the wives and family of these people i send my deepest condolences.

His friends need to learn how to take responsibility, bite the bullet, and own up to their actions.

Got an update on the guy, I found he is actually still alive and at spectrum (butterworth) hospital (he is in critical condition). Hope he pulls through.

1 guy was killed in down Kentville area of nova scotia this weekend, they were on a lake at some races and some how he and a truck collided.the guy was not racing at the time just messing around from what i heard.
also a guy is in critical condition after hitting a tree here in Pictou county over the weekend, the police and ambulance drivers had to be snowmobiled in to the site to get to him. he had to be airlifted to Halifax.
i guess it was a bad weekend for everyone.
drive safe people!!!!!!

To be honest I hope he dies, its one less drunk A-Hole on the trails and roads. I feel sorry for his wife and kids but if you get drunk and sled or drive and kill yourself I don't care as long as you don't take anyone with you I say goodbye to you. I my not be popular for saying it but its how I feel. Self-control seems to be a lost art what ever happened to having a few beers, that means 1 or 2 at most. I personally don’t drink at all when I will be in the car or on the sled. I will be at a bar with my buddies and their all boozing it up I will have a coke I don’t need alcohol to have a good time. Who has time to drink I just want to get some food and get back out as fast as I can.
