I just finished installing a new top end and have now discovered that the PTO side crank seal of my 1994 583 is leaking.
I pulled the seal out and discovered that the crank bearing cage (plastic) is broken - So I'm going to pull the motor and replace it (and any other bearings that are gone).
Although I have lots of experience with 2-stroke bike engines, skidoo engines are a bit new to me.
I'm thinking of leaving the whole top end assembled and turning the motor upside down and just removing the bottom crankcase half. I'm wondering if I can then lift the crank (with pistions still attached and in their cylinders) just enough to support it and then pull the bearings off.
I have a couple of questions:
(1) Will this work?
(2) what sort of puller will I need for the crank bearings?
you shouldent have to worry about it coming rite out because the piston will come and stop and the top of the upper casing and wont come any further, do it as 01machZ says.
