I just purchased n 89 indy 650 the other day mainly because it was cheap. It has a 91 engine. Being new to the more modern sleds can anyone point me in the direction for info on this machine (common problems, things i should check out before winter, etc.) Also can anyone give me a short history of the engine? Is the '91 engine different from the '89? Are there any common upgrades? I'm not looking to spend alot but would like to have a reliable sled for the season. Thanks.

I would purchase a new set of STOCK clutch springs for the primary and driven clutches, and make absolutely sure the carbs are clean on the inside. Then remove the suspension and inspect for broken/worn/binding parts. That should do it.
Properly treated/maintained, this sled most likely has a ton of fun still left in it.
